Volunteer Brian Rooney Embarks to the Disaster Zone

   On Wednesday, January 27, 2010, GMR volunteer Brian Rooney will depart for Haiti along with the group, Delta Ministries to perform a needs assessment for several sites in the earthquake ravaged country.  Working closely with the non-profit organization, Hope for Haiti, they will be visiting a refugee camp along the Dominican/Haitian border as well as several clinics in the region.  There goal while in country, is to provide some much needed medical supplies to the local clinics and to assess their current and future needs for the difficult months and years to come.

  With any initial mission to an area, an assessment must be made to determine the type and amount of help that is required for subsequent aid missions.  Brian Rooney will be assisting Delta Ministries to perform this for Hope for Haiti.  "When you have an exhausted Haitian doctor that sees 150 severely injured patients a day, it doesn't take much to see that there are incredible needs to be addressed," stated Rooney.  "When you see the conditions in Haiti on television compared to our conditions here in the United States, you can see it doesn't take much to make a difference."
